The bed, column, and saddle are composed of Meehanite GA-50 grade cast iron, which includes very high dampening characteristics. The one piece bed casting and column are stress relieved to ensure machine geometry is maintained throughout the life. Wide spacing of the linear roller guide ways ensure optimal support for the table and saddle in full travel of each axis. Heavily ribbed castings provide superior dampening for high speed machining and aggressive milling. The mating surfaces of all axis including the column, linear bearing blocks, linear guide ways, and table surfaces are fully ground to optimize fit and accuracy.


The X & Y axis are standard with heavy-duty 35 mm roller type linear guide ways while the Z axis is standard with 45 mm roller type linear guide ways. Roller type guide ways have 44% more contact than standard linear ways. The guide ways are widely spaced (X 357 mm, Y 752 mm, Z 436 mm) to eliminate table pitch and deformation. The X axis guide ways are inverted allowing the bearing blocks to remain centered under the spindle promoting additional rigidity while cutting. All the guide ways are placed against ground shoulders to maximize rigidity and geometry.


The 10,000 rpm spindle or optional 15,000 rpm cartridge style spindle is standard with a Big Plus® dual contact technology. Taper and face contact proves to provide the most rigidity allowing for decreased tool deflection and cycle times. The permanently greased spindle bearings require no maintenance. The 10,000 rpm spindle is driven by a 2 speed 24/15 HP (18/11 kW) In-line AC servo motor. In-line motor designs reduce vibration and heat improving part finishes and tolerances. The four 70 mm ceramic spindle bearings help with the concern of thermal growth on the 15,000 rpm spindle. Rigid tapping is standard.


Each axis is driven using a high precision, fully ground ball screw. Each of the axes ball screws are double anchored to allow exceptionally fast feedrates. All the ball screws are supported using angular contact thrust bearings and are perfectly centered between the linear guide ways. The 32 mm ball screws are driven directly using direct-coupled AC servo type drive motors eliminating vibration, noise, and backlash.


The 24 pocket double arm ATC provides reliable tool changes.


The machine enclosure is made of heavy duty sheet metal to contain the chips and coolant. The entire machine is fully enclosed. The removable side doors allow direct access to the inside of the machine. The front door opening (45") allows for easily loading and unloading of work pieces.


A dedicated flood pump provides high volume coolant to the machine tool. The coolant nozzles are fully adjustable to accommodate various tool lengths. The 70 gallon coolant tank provides adequate capacity for any application.


A single, 4" pitch chip auger removes the chips efficiently from the machine.


Automatic lubrication is provided to the linear guide ways and ball screws via way oil. Oil is delivered by metered valves, which precisely control the volume. A low-level alarm on the CNC warns the user preventing possible damage to the guide ways and ball screws.


The edit key enables protection of programs as well as parameters of the 8200-B CNC control. Removal of the key limits a user from loading programs and parameters such as work coordinates and tool offsets. With the edit key in the off position the data in the CNC control is available for editing.



Thermal growth of the spindle is reduced by using a refrigeration system that circulates cooled oil around the spindle increasing the accuracy and promoting longer spindle life.
