CONSTRUCTION

 * BED, COLUMN AND SADDLE:

The bed, column, and saddle are composed of Meehanite GA-50 grade cast iron, which includes very high dampening characteristics. The one piece bed casting and column are stress relieved to ensure machine geometry is maintained throughout the life. Wide spacing of the linear guide ways ensure optimal support for the table and saddle in full travel of each axis. Heavily ribbed castings provide superior dampening for high speed machining and aggressive milling. The mating surfaces of all critical contact points including the column, linear bearing blocks, linear guide ways, and table surfaces are fully ground to optimize fit and accuracy.

 * GUIDE WAYS:

The X, Y, & Z-axis are standard with heavy-duty 35 mm linear guide ways. The guide ways are widely spaced (X 280 mm, Y 515 mm, Z 340 mm) to eliminate table pitch and deformation. The guide ways on all three axes are clamped into place using wedge clamps to maximize rigidity and geometry.

 * SPINDLE:

The 8,000 rpm cartridge style spindle is standard with a Big Plus® dual contact technology. Taper and face contact proves to provide the most rigidity allowing for decreased tool deflection and cycle times. The permanently greased spindle bearings require no maintenance. The 8,000 rpm spindle is driven by a 18/12 HP (13/9 kW) AC servo motor. Rigid tapping is standard.

 * BALL SCREWS AND AXIS DRIVES:

Each axis is driven using a high precision, fully ground ball screw. Each of the axes ball screws are pre-tensioned to allow exceptionally fast feedrates. Each ball screw is supported on each end using angular contact thrust bearings and is perfectly centered between the linear guide ways. The 38 mm ball screws are driven directly using direct-coupled AC servo type drive motors eliminating vibration, noise, and backlash.

 * AUTOMATIC TOOL CHANGER:

The 20 pocket double arm ATC provides quick, reliable tool changes.

 * FULLY ENCLOSED MACHINE ENCLOSURE:

The machine enclosure is made of heavy duty sheet metal to contain the chips and coolant. The entire machine is fully enclosed including the top. The removable side doors allow direct access to the inside of the machine. The front door opening (25") allows for easily loading and unloading of work pieces.

 * FLOOD COOLANT SYSTEM:

A dedicated flood pump provides high volume coolant to the machine tool. The coolant nozzles are fully adjustable to accommodate various tool lengths. The 75 gallon coolant tank provides adequate capacity for any application.

 * CHIP REMOVAL:

Enclosure wash down is used for flushing chips from the slanted bottom of the enclosure into the chip auger. The chip auger is integrated into the machine enclosure. A single, 4" pitch chip auger removes the chips efficiently from the machine.

 * LUBRICATION:

Automatic lubrication is provided to the linear guide ways and ball screws via grease to eliminate coolant contamination. Grease is delivered by metered valves, which precisely control the volume. A low-level alarm on the CNC warns the user preventing possible damage to the guide ways and ball screws.

 *REMOTE HANDWHEEL:

The axes can be moved with the remote handwheel to ease setup and set work coordinates. The remote handwheel can move the axis in increments of 1, 10, or 100. The side button can be used to set the work coordinate for the selected axis. 

* EDIT KEY:

The edit key enables protection of programs as well as parameters of the 8200-B CNC control. Removal of the key limits a user from loading programs and parameters such as work coordinates and tool offsets. With the edit key in the off position the data in the CNC control is available for editing.

 * THROUGH-SPINDLE-COOLANT (option):

The ChipBlaster® model D30-70 provides 1000 psi (70 bar) or D30-35 provides 500 psi (35 bar) through the spindle coolant to the tool tip. The high pressure pump produces 8 gpm (30 lpm). Filtration is completed using dual pleated 10 micron (D30-70) or single pleated (D30-35) filters to ensure protection of the spindle and rotary union. The chip blaster unit feeds from the 75 gal coolant tank to provide adequate coolant supply.
